The Foundation for Documentary Projects is a tax-exempt, public non-profit organization under 501(c)(3). It was created to produce educational documentaries and accompanying curricula about important social and historical issues
The Foundation was created after the success of Laura Bialis’ project: TAK FOR ALT—Survival of a Human Spirit, a documentary about Holocaust survivor and Civil Rights activist Judy Meisel. Winner of the Anti-Defamation League’s Dore Schary Award, TAK FOR ALT has aired across the nation on public television. Honored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences as one of the outstanding documentaries of 1999, TAK FOR ALT was featured in the Academy’s prestigious Contemporary Documentary series. The film and its accompanying curriculum are now being used in public and private schools across the United States to teach the Holocaust, tolerance, and civil rights. Many states have used the materials in district-wide Holocaust education initiatives. TAK FOR ALT has been presented to teachers and educators at the Yad Vashem Conference for Educators, and it is listed as an additional resource in the new Holocaust curriculum published by The Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation.
